Harbor Care

We understand how unique and special your loved one's needs are. Our residents live with dignity in our loving and secure environment.  Harbor Care provides an intermediate level of care, much like a skilled nursing community.

OUR MISSION
To anticipate and meet the needs of our residents and families with the highest level of expertise, compassion and quality of care. To facilitate the professional and personal growth of our staff. To serve as a resource and partner in our community.

DAILY LIFE IN HARBOR CARE
The daily activities in our Harbor Care Community improve the quality of life for people challenged by dementia. We encourage our residents with life enhancing, familiar activities like baking, gardening, housework, music and reminiscing. Our residents enjoy the freedom of movement and choice, which are the cornerstones of our innovative activities and programming. Spacious common areas and cozy sitting areas provide our residents and their families a variety of locations to visit or just relax. Our secured yard offers numerous garden and patio spots for outside activities. In season, our apple trees and blueberry bushes offer residents fruit for the picking, after which they enjoy making pies and muffins in the resident kitchen.

GENTLE CARE
Our nursing department is staffed with licensed nurses 24 hours per day and 24 hours of certified nurses' aides as caregivers, with RN oversight. We practice "Gentle Care" philosophy, which encourages our residents' independence and socialization and provides for personal care plans, which reflect each of our resident's preferences and personality.

FAMILY PARTICIPATION
Family members are an integral part of our community. We invite family members to participate in activities, outings and to enjoy meals with their loved one in our dining room (guest meals are an additional charge). We encourage families and visitors to browse through our Alzheimer's resource library. You are welcome to borrow the books and videos for education and better understanding of dementia.

LEVELS OF CARE
Our residents are assessed prior to their admission by our Director of Nursing, Catherine Bowman, RN. The individual and specific needs of each resident, determined by their personal assessment, are the foundation of our resident care plans, designed to meet these needs. We offer five levels of care to better serve a resident’s special needs such as:

  • Assistance with activities of daily living (adl’s) such as bathing, dressing, grooming and eating.
  • Continence of bladder and/or bowel
  • Medication administration
  • Complexity of behavior patterns
  • Complexity of medical conditions
  • Any special need requiring one on one assistance and care.

NURSING SERVICES
Regency on Whidbey does not provide the following nursing services in our residence in accordance with WAC 246-316-265.

  • Respiratory ventilation
  • Intravenous procedures
  • Suctioning
  • Feeding tube insertion or site maintenance
  • Stage II Decubitus or greater
  • Care of residents who are bed bound for more than 14 consecutive days as a result of a medical condition.*

RESPITE PROGRAM
Our Respite Program was designed with the needs of Caregivers in mind. A caregiver of a loved one with dementia needs periods of rest and relaxation to enable them to maintain energy and a positive attitude about their responsibilities. Our respite program offers relief for 1 to 30 days for caregivers needing time away. Take a break for the day or plan some time for yourself on a regular basis.

CONTINENCE CARE PROGRAM
Regency on Whidbey offers our residents a cost effective program providing quality incontinence products. After review of the four leading incontinence products we have determined that the Promise products offer our residents the most cost effective, skin protective adult briefs and pull-ups available on the market today.

We offer three options based on:

  • Product use - how many changes are needed daily
  • Size - Small, Medium, Large
  • Type - Pull-ups or Tabbed Briefs

Description of options:

Level one is based on 3 changes per day using the adult pull-up. This product is designed to be worn as one would wear their own underwear and provides maximum protection. Residents using this product usually do not require assistance with toileting.

Level two is based on a normal day’s usage of 3-4 briefs. This plan includes the briefs, sanitary wipes, and peri-lotion, formulated to provide a protective shield preventing skin break down. Residents who need this type of product require assistance with changes and toileting.

Level three is based on heavy usage of 5-8 briefs. This plan includes the briefs, sanitary wipes, and peri-lotion formulated to provide a protective shield preventing skin breakdown. Residents who need this plan require a great deal of assistance in toileting and product changes.

We will continually monitor the resident’s product usage to be sure that they are on the proper plan for their incontinence needs.
